Does Your IT Have a Future or Is It Becoming Obsolete?

The whispers on the floor

Do We Even Need IT Anymore?

This is a question many companies are asking – consciously or unconsciously. And often, the honest answer is: Not in its current form.

Because when IT departments are primarily focused on coordination and deliver little real value, eventually the question arises: Why even have an internal IT?

We’ve seen the picture:
👉 Decisions are made between business units and external providers
👉 IT is mostly tied up with processes, governance, and alignment
👉 Internal teams are briefed by consultants, not the other way around

And then comes the moment when the CIO realizes: My IT team has little power left to shape the future.

Two Paths – But Only One Leads Forward

If internal IT wants to have a future, there are only two options:

IT Becomes a True Business Partner

  • IT actively understands and influences the business strategy

  • Tech and business expertise combine, so business units work with IT, not without it

  • Execution power comes from strong internal teams – working alongside external experts to deliver real solutions

IT Becomes the Chief of Governance

  • IT is just a middleman between business and external providers

  • The core technical knowledge shifts outside the organization

  • Innovation, expertise, and control are lost

The problem? Many companies are already on the second path without realizing it.

We’ve seen how internal IT teams have switched from PowerPoint presentations to real execution – and suddenly regained control.

The choice is ours: Shape the future or be phased out.

Matthias Patzak and I know which path to take – and we’re working on it. 🚀
